This is a follow up to the "memories" thread, I would recommend reading at least some of that thread before reading this one... In an attempt to bring the 'feel' of the old board back a few of the old traditions are being reinstated. On the old board there was quite the cast of regular posters and a huge host of inside jokes where used as a meaningless code to confuse the newbies (actualy this was started by the developers when they where asked questions they couldn't answer like "When does the game go gold?", "How far into production are you??", etc.). So in an attempt to keep the 'new' people (of which I'm guessing there's quite a hand full of seeing how the new people aren't all that new anymore) from feeling alienated here's the meanings behind some of the terms you may be seeing here shortly. Purple, Green - This (as far as I can tell) is what started it all. When asked questions the developers could not answer (probably due to NDA's) they would reply with a simple 'Purple' or 'Green'. The reference is to the episode "The Geometry of Shadows" where the Drazi's split into two groups of Purple and Green wearing clans. The colors are often associated with other things like... Ardvarks, Forklifts - Unfortunatly I wasn't checking the forum the day(s) these two where created. Forklifts refers to Vorlons, and the developers. Developers where often called Vorlons and so the forklifts where something they drove. I don't know anymore then this. The Ardvark I believe came about because one of the ships resembeled one (I could be very VERY wrong on this one though). Not sure. Point being, they don't actualy mean anything. They where created because someone went off on a tangent in some thread and the terms stuck. Watercooler - Odd spin off of the B-5 station. A thread about talking around the watercooler ended up with someone rendering a watercooler in lightwave and posting it in a scene replacing the B-5 station, and from that we got... DixieFuries and T-Cones - The fighter craft that defend the Watercooler... There's more but these where some of the popular ones. I'll continue to post about any other references I see come up that start to really confuse anyone. I've been on the ITF boards for about a year so I've seen all of them at one point or another. Why am I doing this? Not to ruin anyone's fun but because the attempt
to bring the old "feel" back to this board may not work resulting in the
"First Ones" trying harder to confuse the new people (for whatever
reason). With this post the new members get to see just how diverse a
group we where on the old board (check out the new 'Contest' thread I remember when I first joined the Sierra board and seeing countless
posts about who's been here the longest and who gets to put "First Ones"
in their sigs (I really wanted the game to come out if for nothing else so
I could squash all of these guys in online combat :] ). I find this far
too silly. And besides this way, everyone gets to join in on the fun!!

Thanx Vorpal. Hope this will help me and other newbies. And that contest of who has been here or there the longest time is just
too silly. Reminds me of kinds on the playground depating who's father is
the strongest To show your ability in multiplayer. Now that's completely another
thing. ---And the sky was full of stars, everyone of them an exploding ship--- See ya, The Viper IP: Logged |

Actually, I rendered the water-cooler and cups in Truespace; Lightwave is too much moolah.

re: the aardvark/forklift thread, it's actually two different things. "Aardvark" was someone else's response to a question that could not be answered -- just a nonsensical word in place of a real answer. The vorlon forklift thing started as a discussion about the Starfury
"Forklifts" (modified Starfuries that had grappling arms used for moving
objects) that were seen in a few episodes of B5 (and Thirdspace, too, I
think). A few people said their piloting skills were so good, they could
fly a forklift and still kick butt.... then came the whole Vorlon-Forklift
thing...it's all very complicated...no, not complicated, I mean silly.
Sam PS: Here's one piece of nostalgia:
